Setup guide

Connect your Google Calendar.

Every booking appears in your Google Calendar automatically, and anything already in your calendar blocks that time on your website.

Time: about 20 minutes

You need: the Google account that owns your calendar

You'll copy: 3 codes

Before you start

Once connected, your website adds every new booking to your Google Calendar, moves it if the booking is rescheduled, and blocks out times you're already busy so clients can't book them.

Google needs you to set up a small, free, private “project” in Google Cloud. Only you will ever see it. At the end you'll have three codes: an OAuth Client ID, an OAuth Client secret and your Calendar ID.

Have your website address ready. You'll need it in step 5. It looks like yourbusiness.nunkio.com, or your own domain if you have one.

Step by step

1

Create a project and switch on the Calendar API

Go to console.cloud.google.com and sign in with the Google account that owns your calendar. Click the project picker at the top, then New project, name it Nunkio Booking and click Create. Make sure the new project is selected, search for Google Calendar API and click Enable.

2

Set up the consent screen

Search for Google Auth Platform and open it. If you see Get started, click it and choose External. Under Branding fill in the app name, your support email, an authorised domain (nunkio.com, or your own domain) and your developer contact email. Click Save.

3

Add the calendar permission

Click Data Access → Add or remove scopes. At the bottom, under Manually add scopes, paste https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar, click Add to table, then Update, then Save. Skipping this is the most common reason Google shows “Something went wrong”.

4

Add yourself as a test user

Click Audience. Leave the publishing status on Testing; you don't need to publish. Under Test users click + Add users, enter your Gmail address and click Save.

5

Create your OAuth client

Click Clients → + Create client, choose Web application and name it Nunkio WP. Under Authorised redirect URIs add this address, using your own website address, then click Create:
https://yourbusiness.nunkio.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=nunkio-settings&tab=google

6

Copy your Client ID and secret straight away

A pop-up shows your Client ID and Client secret. Copy both now. Google only shows the secret once; if you lose it, open the client and click Add secret to make a new one.

7

Find your Calendar ID

In Google Calendar, hover over the calendar you want bookings in, click ⋮ → Settings and sharing, scroll to Integrate calendar and copy the Calendar ID. Your main calendar's ID is usually your Gmail address. Tip: create a separate “Bookings” calendar if you'd like to keep them apart.

8

Paste the codes and connect

Go to Nunkio Booking → Settings → Google Calendar, tick Enable Google Calendar, paste the three codes and click Save settings. Then click Connect Google Calendar, choose your account, click Continue if Google says the app isn't verified (that's normal for your own private app), and click Allow. You'll see “Connected”.

If something goes wrong

Error 400: redirect_uri_mismatch

The address in step 5 doesn't match your website exactly. Fix it in Clients, save, wait 5 minutes and try again.

Error 403: access_denied

Your Gmail address isn't a test user. Add it under Audience → Test users (step 4).

“Something went wrong” on Google's page

The calendar permission is missing. Do step 3 again and make sure you clicked Update and Save.

Lost the Client secret

Open your client, click Add secret, paste the new one into your website and save.
