Setup guide

Connect your PayPal account.

Accept PayPal and card payments from clients anywhere in the world, paid straight into your own PayPal Business account.

Time: about 10 minutes

You need: a PayPal Business account

You'll copy: 2 codes

Before you start

PayPal is best for clients outside South Africa. When a client pays by PayPal, the money goes into your PayPal account. You'll copy two codes: a Client ID and a Secret.

PayPal doesn't support Rand. If your website is priced in Rand, it converts the price to US dollars for PayPal clients, using a rate you set (step 4).

You need a PayPal Business account. A personal account can't be used. You can upgrade a personal account to Business for free in your PayPal settings, or sign up for a new one at paypal.com.

Step by step

1

Log in to the PayPal Developer Dashboard

Go to developer.paypal.com, click Log in to Dashboard and log in with your PayPal Business details. Switch the toggle at the top left to Live (not Sandbox) and click Apps & Credentials.

2

Create an app

Click Create App, give it a name such as Nunkio Booking, and click Create App again.

3

Copy your Client ID and Secret

On your new app's page, copy the Client ID. Next to Secret key 1, click Show (or the eye icon) and copy the secret. Keep the secret private, like a password.

4

Paste the codes into your website

Go to Nunkio Booking → Settings → Payments, scroll to PayPal, tick Enable PayPal, paste your Client ID and Client secret, make sure Sandbox mode is not ticked and click Save settings. On Rand websites, check the ZAR → USD rate box too: 0.055 means a R600 session costs $33. Update it every month or two.

5

Do a test booking

Book a low-priced service, choose PayPal and pay. Check the booking shows as paid under Nunkio Booking → All Bookings and the payment is in your PayPal account. You can refund yourself afterwards.

If something goes wrong

Can't connect to PayPal at checkout

Check both codes were copied in full, came from a Live app, and Sandbox mode is unticked.

The price PayPal clients see looks wrong

Check the ZAR → USD rate (step 4). Use a decimal point, e.g. 0.055.

PayPal isn't on the booking form

Make sure Enable PayPal is ticked and saved.

Getting money into a South African bank
